Bosnia and Herzegovina

IMG continues to implement a range of projects in Bosnia Herzegovina.

One of the currently ongoing projects is Reconstruction of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Parliament Building/Façade works.

During the war in Bosnia the building of the Parliament of BH was located in the very confrontation line and suffered heavy damages, especially to the facade. Since most of the internal reconstruction works and most important external works (roofing / waterproofing) on the parliament building are accomplished, the reconstruction of the external building elements represents final activities in completion of the reconstruction process in rehabilitation of the Parliament of BH.

The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs previously funded the reconstruction and renovation of the Large Parliamentary Hall of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, completed in September 2005, in the amount of approx. KM 2,68 mill. Another contribution to the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs included renovation of the offices of caucuses, adaptation of Archives, Printing Facility and Administration Room, as well as purchase of the literature for the Reading Room.

The total value of this project is approximately €1,7 million, out of which €1,2 mill provides Norwegian Government  and the rest Provides BH Parliament. The Project started at the beginning of 2007 and it is expected to be completed by the end of 2008.

The second project is the preparation of the study of alternative energy sources. This study is focused on development of usage of such energy sources, i.e. wind and water through the construction of mini hydro-power plants. The project also covers training of the employees of the local power supply companies or the relevant Ministries. The current achievements of this project are 10 feasibility studies from 10 mini hydro stations together with a report on the legal framework for renewable energy in BiH. The value of the project is €708.000.

A third project is aimed at the environmental improvement of the River Bosna and its tributaries, and support to activities related to its water quality and quantity control. The project was conceived to support the Water Users Association in Popovo Polje, contributing to the economic reactivation of the Valley through the stimulation of agricultural activities. In the reporting period two contracts have been signed for the construction of one primary and two secondary irrigation systems. These systems should be completed in the summer of 2006. The value of the project is €580.000.

The project of support to the establishment and strengthening of the Financial Intelligence Department (FID) within the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) is still ongoing. IMG has procured the required furniture and computer equipment. The study visit to the Evaluation Committee for money laundering prevention policies of MONEYVAL in Strasbourg was organised for representatives of the FID (SIPA).

As part of the UN year of micro-credit, IMG initiated a project to provide micro-credits to small entrepreneurs and those ones with business ideas which did not need big capital to start the business. The value of the project was €200.000.
